Kwame Nkrumah the first president of Ghana was heavily influenced by Jamaican political leader Marcus Garvey. The symbolic Black Star in the middle of the flag of Ghana was inspired by the Black Star Shipping Line, which was part of Marcus Garvey’s attempts to build the Back-to-Africa movement.
